Legal
Privacy Policy
Draft · Last updated: [DATE — TODO]
This policy explains what information SafelyAboard ("we") collects, why, and your choices. [TODO: legal entity name, address and jurisdiction.]
What we collect
- Questions you send through "Ask SafelyAboard": your question and, if you choose, a first name and email. When automated answers are switched on, your question text (not your name or email) is sent to the service that drafts our automated answers [TODO: name the provider and its data-retention terms] to generate an answer.
- Newsletter sign-ups: your email address, the date, and the page you signed up from.
- Premium waitlist: your email and any feature interests you tick.
- Tail number lookups: the N-number you search, in standard server logs. We don't link lookups to your identity.
- Purchases of the 7-day program: payment is handled by Stripe and sold through Link, Stripe's payment service. Stripe collects your payment details, name, email and billing address under its own privacy policy. Stripe then tells us the email you used, the amount and whether the payment went through, and we keep that record of your purchase (and a scrambled, hashed form of your email to unlock the program). We never see or store your card number.
- Technical data: standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) kept for security and debugging. [TODO: retention period.]
Advertising and cookies
We may show ads from Google AdSense. When enabled, Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings. For visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland we ask for consent before loading any Google ad code; your choice is stored in your browser and can be changed via "Cookie settings" in the footer. [TODO: confirm whether a certified CMP (Google requires one for EEA/UK personalized ads) is needed; list of cookies.]
Analytics
Analytics are off by default. If enabled, we use a privacy-friendly, cookieless tool (Plausible or Umami) that counts page views without identifying you. [TODO: confirm which is used.]
Affiliate links
Some links are affiliate links. If you click one, the partner may set a cookie to credit us for a purchase. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
Aircraft registry data
Tail lookup shows public FAA and NTSB records. We deliberately do not display the names of private individuals who own aircraft, and we do not store owner street addresses.
How we use information
- To answer questions and improve our articles.
- To send the newsletter you asked for (via our email provider [TODO: Buttondown / Kit / beehiiv]).
- To notify you when Premium launches, and to deliver and support the program you bought (including refunds).
- To keep the site secure.
We do not sell your personal information. [TODO: confirm CCPA/CPRA "sale/share" analysis given advertising cookies.]
Your choices and rights
You can unsubscribe from emails at any time using the link in each email, or ask us to access, correct or delete your data by emailing hello@safelyaboard.com. [TODO: GDPR/UK GDPR lawful bases, data controller details, international transfers, children's privacy, response timelines.]
