Calm corner

Breathe with the circle.

Breathe in gently as it grows, and out as it shrinks, counting to five each way. Keep going for a few minutes.

How to do it

  • Sit back with your feet flat and your shoulders relaxed.
  • Let your breath flow down into your belly without forcing it, in through your nose and out through your mouth.
  • Count steadily from 1 to 5 as you breathe in, and again as you breathe out. If you can't reach 5 at first, that's fine.
  • The NHS suggests keeping going for at least 5 minutes.1

While you breathe, it can help to know what's going on around you: common sounds and sensations and why turbulence isn't dangerous to the airplane.
